Rottnest is a surprising place. Sure it has its issues with high prices and some missing tourist infrastructure yet it remains the must see place for any visitor or local. So what is a must see or do in this must visit location? I went to the island and searched far and wide on the web to find out.
What gets an entry to number 1?
The island is the perfect size for many things as you can get from one side to the other in under an hour. This makes everything in the island highly accessible. In many ways everything you do on the island is dictated by how small the island should feel after touring around after just a few minutes. Getting to number one is not as important here as it is for other top tens, but still, great things do find their way to the top for good reason.
Why are the others in the mix?
There is a lot to do on the island but some things are more accessible than others. To get into this list an entry needs to be easy to access and offer something outside the norm. Snorkelling and checking out the local wildlife are two great examples of this. What make them even more interesting is the fact that its hard to do them together in Perth. Yes you can see animals and snorkel in Perth but few places will offer you all of these things in such close proximity.
The ferries run at strange times, the food could be better, the prices are very high and some of the facilities and tourist services are below par. With all this you would assume that Rottnest would not do very well. The reality however is that the sheer bounty of amazing features means that visiting Perth and not seeing Rottnest represents a serious missed opportunity. The landscape of the place alone should draw you out of your seats and onto the dockside for a serious island adventure.
